DeepSeek, From Claude Code Support to Its Own Agent App

DeepSeek's model posts named Claude Code and Codex, and since Aug 17 it has shipped an agent app of its own, DeepSeek Harness.

A timeline from July 2025 to November 2026, five dots, each a DeepSeek record with DeepSeek's own words. In grey, its model posts: V3.1, Aug 21, 2025, “Anthropic API format supported”. V4 Preview, Apr 24, 2026, “seamlessly integrated with leading AI agents like Claude Code, OpenClaw & OpenCode”. V4-Pro GA, Aug 13, “Native OpenAI Responses API support, optimized for Codex with one-click setup”. In green, its own agent app: DeepSeek Harness, first release, Aug 17, “Manage Codex and Claude Code subagent tasks through the Job Panel”. Super-agent, Oct 31, “Research prototype for reference only, not an official DeepSeek product”.

Since 2025, DeepSeek's model announcements have named other companies' APIs and agents. Its V3.1 release on Aug 21, 2025 added Anthropic API format support, and its V4 Preview on Apr 24, 2026 said the model was “seamlessly integrated with leading AI agents like Claude Code, OpenClaw & OpenCode”. On Aug 17, 2026, DeepSeek made the first GitHub release of an agent app of its own, DeepSeek Harness, and on Oct 31 it open-sourced a research prototype built on it.

Models for other agents

DeepSeek's V3.1 post listed “Anthropic API format supported” among its API updates. Its V4 Preview post named Claude Code, OpenClaw and OpenCode and added that V4 was “Already driving our in-house agentic coding at DeepSeek.” When V4-Pro reached general availability on Aug 13, 2026, DeepSeek's post announced “Native OpenAI Responses API support, optimized for Codex with one-click setup.”

An agent app that runs other agents

On Aug 17, DeepSeek published dsh-v0.1.0-rc.7, the first release on the DeepSeek Harness GitHub page. Its notes list “Manage Codex and Claude Code subagent tasks through the Job Panel” among its new features. The next one, on Aug 19, made “Claude Code and Codex subagents installable on demand as Profile Bundles.” Both are marked Pre-release on GitHub. DeepSeek's product page says Harness “is now in public preview worldwide and open source,” and can run as a desktop app or a web interface. The page is undated, and the history before the Aug 17 release is not public.

Shared as a research prototype

On Oct 31, the DeepSeek Harness team open-sourced dsh-superagent-prototype, “a proactive coding agent for one GitHub repository, packaged as a bundle for DeepSeek Harness.” Its README opens: “Research prototype for reference only, not an official DeepSeek product,” and says the published code “is not identical to our internal version” and leaves some of the article's designs unimplemented. The team's machine-translated English article on X on Nov 1 says it “discusses architectural ideas” and “is not an introduction to existing features of DeepSeek Harness.” It says DeepSeek's internal Super-agent “is already running continuously,” and that Anthropic's “Decoupling the brain from the hands” design “takes the same approach,” with a different target: Anthropic's describes a managed service, while DeepSeek's also connects the personal machines people use every day.
